I started this blog many years ago as a way to keep grandparents informed and updated on the boys. After a few years, life just got crazy and I stopped blogging. A week or so after Jason's death, I decided to blog about our journey.....so that I could once again keep family and friends updated but mostly as a way to express my pain and grief. Because the boys are so young, I want them to understand my thoughts and know my most personal and intimate moments as I walk this heartbreaking, scary, and bittersweet road without their daddy.
This is obviously not the life I envisioned for myself but one thing I can say is that God has been so faithful during the darkest moments. He has never left my side and he continues to carry us through this tragedy. I say "continue" because this journey is far from over. Our hearts are slowly healing and we are gradually creating new normals but there is an undeniable sadness because we miss him.
The last year and a half, our family has been taken care of and blessed in so many ways by family, friends, and even complete strangers. I am in awe when I think about all the ways we have been loved on. God certainly knew what he was doing when he placed Shawn in our path. He has been a constant source of love and encouragement and hope and I recently got the privilege of becoming his wife. He is such a blessing to us and we are excited about what the future holds for our family.
You can read about our story here and here....and there are other stories sprinkled throughout the last year.
On a lighter note, I love:
* to travel
* Mexican food
* spring
* watching movies
* spending time with my family
* pedicures
* girl night
* a good glass of wine
Thanks for stopping by!
About Shawn:
Lots of people want to know.....who is this Shawn guy? Jason and Shawn met during Jason's freshman year in college at Harding University. They were friends and even roommates for several years after graduation. In fact, they were living together when Jason and I started dating. Shawn was in our wedding and was a wonderful friend to Jason over the years. Shawn had never been married and didn't have any children of his own. Right after Jason died, he started spending time with the boys (because he wanted to do that for Jason) and over several months, Shawn and I grew closer as we bonded over our loss for Jason. Although his loss was different than mine, it still hurt him and impacted his life in a huge way. I felt comfortable sharing my grief with him because he understood.....and because of this a deep friendship developed. Shawn is an amazing friend, a very career driven/hard worker, a faithful Christian man, a great dad to the boys, a tender and sweet husband to me, he is very close to his parents and siblings, and just an overall awesome guy. I remember asking Jason over the years "why isn't Shawn married" and he would tell me "he is one picky guy!" I am so glad he was and so happy that he picked me. He is such a blessing to us all!
