Project Runway Ain't Got Nothin' on Me

I love me some Project Runway.

Seriously, I sit and watch in awe as these contestants create amazing looks out of random materials like greenery and hardware.  It's crazy to see what they come up with.  Then I wonder why it is that they have more creativity in their little pinky finger than I do in my entire body.  Just not fair! :)

Today, Cooper's first grade class is having a Dr. Seuss Day in honor of his birthday tomorrow.  The kids were allowed to dress up as any character they wanted.  Cooper insisted on Sam I Am.....and said that he wanted a hat and also green eggs and ham.  I didn't even start thinking about this until Wednesday so it was obviously too late for me to hop on Etsy and purchase things for him.  I looked around at some stores to see if I could find any sort of Cat in the Hat shirt or hat or anything else that would work.  Nothing.

I hit up my local Michael's store and decided to just make it myself.
He really wanted some green eggs and ham.......so I created some out of felt. I just purchased the colors I needed and then drew the shapes onto the material and then did a whip stitch all around the edge.  For the yolk, I stuffed a little bit of cotton ball underneath to give it some fluff.

I purchased a plain black foam hat and then wrapped it in red felt.....and tried to work my magic with the hot glue gun.  Stuffed some grocery bags inside to give it some height.
Bought a plain yellow shirt and red iron-on letters.  Super easy!
I envisioned that he would carry his little plate of "food" but he wanted to kind of wear it so this morning I attached the food onto a brown strip of felt and put velcro on it so he could wear it on his arm.....almost like a little bracelet.
There you have it.......the finished product.  And this is exactly why I have never attempted to make Halloween costumes!

Impressive especially for last minute. Sometimes I am most creative when I have less time!
